ITINERARY Day 1: Cape Peninsula On the first morning of your stay, after check in and receiving all the details from our local specialist, you saddle up and ride along the Atlantic Ocean towards Hout Bay. Here you can stretch your legs on a boat trip to “Seal Island”. Ride the challenging but unforgettably scenic Chapman’s Peak Drive. The 9 km route counts no less than 114 curves and even more stunning ocean views. Our minibus will take you to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve where you can cycle to Cape Point dn Cape of Good Hope. On our way back to Cape Town we visit the African penguin colony on Boulder’s Beach. Overnight Cape Town.
Day 2: Winelands After a visit to Table Mountain (weather permitting), you head towards the winelands where you explore Franschhoek and get a chance to ride around the colourful town of Stellenbosch. Overnight Stellenbosch.
Day 3: Breede River/ Montagu Drive through the majestic DuToitskloof past the vineyards of Worcester to Robertson, Ashton and finally Montagu. Check in to your “farm style” accommodation where you can help the locals harvest fruit (in season). Cycle through the lovely town and/or explore the farm lands on the extensive dirt roads. Overnight Montagu.
Day 4: Klein Karoo/ Oudtshoorn Driving along the fabled vineyards of Route 62 we enter the arid semi desert Little Karoo. In Oudtshoorn you can climb on the saddle again and explore the area. Cycle to the world renowned Cango Caves, stretch the legs at an ostrich farm or visit the Cango Wildlife Ranch. Overnight Oudtshoorn.
Day 5: Oudtshoorn/ Swartberg Pass Today you will be driven around by our local expert. He will take you to a donkey cart ride in De Rust and a refreshing “dip” into the Meiringspoort waterfall pools. After lunch in Prince Albert you will be taken to the top of the Swartberg Pass for a descent by mountain bike. End your day with a real South African “braai” (BBQ). Overnight Oudtshoorn.
Day 6: Garden Route Drive across the Outeniqua Mountains to the “Garden Route”. In Knysna you can cycle to the sandstone formation called The Heads that mark the border between the famous lagoon and the Indian Ocean. Overnight Knysna.
Day 7: Plettenberg Bay & Tsitsikamma Today drive to Plettenberg Bay and explore the Tsitsikamma National Park on foot. Continue to Port Elizabeth where you spend the night.
Day 8: Addo & Port Elizabeth In the morning visit to Addo Elephant Park, in the afternoon you get back on your bicycle again to explore Port Elizabeth where you overnight.
Day 9: Flight to Durban Mid-morning flight to Durban. Transfer to the Mont Aux Sources in the northern Drakensberg Mountains.The area is named after the highest peak in the world-famous Amphitheatre in the northern Drakensberg measuring 3'282 metres which was discovered in 1836 by French missionaries and christened Mont-Aux-Sources or "Mountain of springs". The mighty Tugela has ist source here and plummets 2'000 metres over the mountain plateau making it the second highest waterfall in the world. Overnight at Mont Aux Sources Resort.
Day 10: Drakensberg Saddle up and cycle into the Royal Natal National Park a few kilometres from the hotel. After a picnic join the local community guide for a 45min walk to the Bushman paintings and rock art. On request a visit to a local community school can be arranged. Overnight at Mont Aux Sources Resort.
Day 11: St Lucia Today you drive to the World Heritage site of iSimangaliso (formerly St Lucia Wetlands Park). The estuary can also be explored by bicycle. Another option is to go for a 4x4 safari in the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi National Park or take a two hour boat cruise on the estuary.
Day 12: Swaziland You cross the border the the kingdom of Swaziland and enjoy lunch at the Nisela Lion Park. The “sugar belt” will take us via Big Bend to Manzini and Mbabane. Visit the local market in Manzini. Drive on to Mlilwane game park for check in and overnight.
Day 13: Swaziland by bike You have the whole day to explore the reserve. Guided mountain bike trials can be booked. Overnight Mlilwane.
Day 14: Chimpanzee park Cross the border to South Africa and drive towards the Kruger National Park. Before you get there, you have a chance to visit the Jane Goodall Institute Chimpanzee Eden in Nelspruit. Overnight in a game lodge near Numbi Gate.
Day 15: Kruger National Park Enter the southern part of the Kruger Park at Numbi Gate and go on safari! Overnight in game lodge.
Day 16: Kruger National Park by bicycle Explore Kruger on two wheels with an early morning mountain bike safari, guided by a professional game ranger (4hrs) - subject to availability, please contact us about this. After breakfast drive towards Orpen Gate. Lunch is served at your game lodge. Embark on a cultural village cycle trip. End the day with a “braai” (BBQ). Overnight in game lodge.
Day 17: Panorama Route The road will take you via the Abel Erasmus Pass to the Drakensberg escarpment. Explore the Panorama Route. Overnight in Pilgrims Rest.
Day 18: Pretoria Drive through Lydenburg towards Pretoria. Visit the Union Buildings, Kruger House, Melrose Place and the Voortrekker Monument. Overnight Pretoria.
