ITINERARY

Day 1: Pretoria
On the first morning of your trip, you collect your car and drive to Pretoria. Here you can visit the Union Buildings, the Voortrekker monument and Kruger House. Check into your hotel. Overnight Pretoria.

Day 2: Haenertsburg
Drive north to into the Limpopo province. Your next destination is the farming town of Haenertsburg, aptly nicknamed “The Mountain” by the locals. Check into your lodge. Overnight.

Day 3: Haenertsburg
Spend the day in Haenertsburg hiking some of the many, wonderful trails through the mountains and forests in the region. Overnight in mountain lodge.

Day 4: Timbavati
Today you drive through the wonderful Magoebaskloof pass towards Tzaneen and on to your game lodge near Hoedspruit for a late afternoon safari walk. Overnight Timbavati

Day 5: Kruger Park
Today you enter the Kruger National Park and spend the whole day looking for the Big 5 from the comfort of your own car. Overnight in Kruger Park

Day 6: Swaziland
Today you drive to the tiny kingdom of Swaziland. After clearing customs you drive on to the capital Mbabane. Here you can visit a local craft market and a candle factory before you arrive at your accommodation in the secluded Mlilwane game reserve, situated in Swaziland’s “Valley of Heaven”. Check in and overnight Mlilwane.

Day 7: Mlilwane
Today you have time to do some of the many hikes within the park. Walk amidst the impalas, zebras and other wild animals. In the afternoon there is the opportunity to book a Swazi cultural experience. Overnight Mlilwane

Day 8: Ithala
Cross the border to South Africa again and drive towards the Ithala Game Reserve in KwaZulu-Natal, a game viewers paradise. Check in and embark on a late afternoon 4x4 safari. Overnight Ithala

Day 9: Ithala
Today you can go on several hikes within the park and/or book another safari by vehicle. Overnight Ithala

Day 10: Drakensberg
Today you drive towards Vryheid and the impressive Battle of Blood River memorial. Make a stop in Dundee’s interesting Talana museum and enjoy lunch at the Miners Rest restaurant. Drive on to the Drakensberg via Ladysmith and Bergville. Late afternoon arrival. Overnight Drakensberg.

Day 11: Drakensberg
Today you have time to absorb the splendour of the Drakensberg mountains, a World Heritage site the locals call uKhahlamba: the “wall of spears”. Take a short drive to the Royal Natal National Park. Join a local guide for a 45 minute hike to some of the old Bushmen paintings. It’s a wonderful prelude for the 11 kilometer hike into the gorge. There is a paved and pleasant walk to the Cascades waterfall. Picnics can be arranged from the hotel. The same goes for a visit to one of the local schools (on prior arrangement). Overnight Drakensberg.

Day 12: Lesotho
Drive through the Golden Gate National Park to the hamlet of Ficksburg, the cherry capital of South Africa, and then towards the Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho. Late afternoon arrival at your lodge. Overnight Malealea.

Day 13: Lesotho
The best way to truly appreciate the beauty of the Lesotho Highlands is on foot. Hike through the mountains with a local guide. This is an experience you will never forget. A pony trail can also be booked. Overnight Malealea

Day 14: Graaff Reinet
Clear customs and drive towards Graaff Reinet, the fourth oldest town of South Africa. After check in, you drive to the Valley of Desolation for a very memorable sunset. Overnight Graaff Reinet

Day 15: Port Elizabeth & Garden Route
Today you drive towards the harbour city of Port Elizabeth. After lunch drive on towards the Garden Route. On route you can visit the Big Tree and the Tsitsikamma National Park where you can take a short walk to the waterfall. Late afternoon check in at your game lodge in Plettenberg Bay.

Day 16: Plettenberg Bay
Embark on an early morning “safari” hike. Spot the African buffalo and other animals. Spend the rest of the day by hiking the coastal Robberg Nature reserve. In the afternoon book yourself a whale watching trip*. Overnight in "Plett".

Day 17: De Hoop
Today you drive on towards Mossel Bay where you can visit the Diaz museum and the old Post Office tree. Drive on to Swellendam for a lunch and stroll through the third oldest town of South Africa. Arrive in the afternoon at De Hoop Nature reserve. Overnight De Hoop.

Day 18: De Hoop
Today you can enjoy several hikes through the National Park, a hidden pearl crowded by antelope and a vast variety of birds. There are very pleasant walking trails to the coast where one can spot whales* and to the dam. Overnight De Hoop

Day 19: Bredasdorp to Cape Town
Stopover at Bredasdorp for a visit to the interesting Shipwreck Museum and continue your way to Cape Town. Overnight.

Day 20: Cape Point
Spend the day hiking the different trails in the Cape Point Nature reserve and enjoy a picnic on one of the beaches. Visit the penguin colony at Boulders Beach and take a leisurely walk through the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Return to the city centre.
Overnight Cape Town.

Day 21: Table Mountain
Today you can hike to the top of Table Mountain and/or stroll up Lion’s Head. A walk through the city centre and company gardens is another must-do.
Overnight Cape Town.

Day 22: Cape Town
Today you can visit the Winelands before heading back to the airport. Alternatively you can extend your stay in Cape Town to embark on the CEDERBERG MOUNTAIN TRAIL....
