Have a family feeling moment when staying in one of our selected home stays in Gugulethu. During this unique and personal experience a knowledgeable and certified guide will take you through the streets of ‘Gugs’ and you will discover what it exactly is that makes Gugulethu an often overlooked tourist hot spot. Only ZAR 606 per person, including transfers, guide, overnight and meals!
Introduction You will be picked up at 14h00 for your transfer to Gugulethu. You will arrive at the house of Mama Knoks and her daughter where you will be welcomed with refreshments. Mama Knoks will take you on a walk through the area which is the perfect way to meet your new neighbours and learn more about the development of the home stays in the area.
Around 15h30 will you be picked up for a guided tour on a horse drawn cart (passenger certified) by a qualified local guide and visit the busy corner (NY1) to see the Gugulethu 7 monument, where all 7 sculptures of young activist stand. From here will the tour continue to the Amy Biehl Cross on NY1 which brings a symbolic memory to the tragedy that happened to this young American girl early in 1993.
After this it’s time to go to Mzoli’s where you will have a joyful time! Mzoli’s is the most fashionable hang-out spot in the area and a typical township Butchery. Here you can enjoy local meat called (umbengo) “braai wors”. Lunch and drinks are on clients own account. From here the tour comes to an end and will you return to Mama Knoks and her family where you can assist in making a traditional meal for dinner. This will be enjoyed together whilst you share your backgrounds and get to know each other like friends. Become familiar with local life and leave Gugulethu the next day as a family member more than a visitor.
