ITINERARY

Day 1: Cape Town to Winelands via Hermanus
We leave the city of Cape Town behind and will enjoy the view of magnificent Table Mountain one last time as we make our way on to the whale capital of South Africa: Hermanus. From shore we are hoping to see the Southern Right whale, but for those who would like to view the whales from up close, a whale encounter excursion can be booked (optional). From Hermanus, we drive into the winelands.

Day 2: Winelands
A relaxing day as we tour the winelands. Of course we stop at a winefarm where we do some winetasting. We also visit the towns of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek.

Day 3: Winelands to Oudtshoorn
On to the Klein Karoo we see the landscape change as we drive to Oudtshoorn. Here we visit the most famous inhabitants of Oudtshoorn: the ostriches. Those brave enough can even ride one (optional)! A tour through the famous cango caves can also be booked (optional).

Day 4: Oudtshoorn to Plettenberg Bay via Knysna
We drive south over the Outeniqua Pass on to Knysna. This lovely town has much to offer. Several excursions can be booked here such as a lagoon boat cruise (optional). Overnight in Plettenberg Bay.

Day 5: Tsitsikamma NP
The Tsitsikamma National Park is our destination today. This park offers many hiking trails as well as more adventurous activities such as a canopy tour (optional) and one of the highest bungee jumps in the world (optional). Overnight in Plettenberg Bay.

Day 6: Plettenberg Bay to Private Game Reserve
Heading east we enter the city of Port Elizabeth. A city tour will show you this city’s highlights. Afterwards we arrive at a private game reserve. Our accommodation tonight is situated on this reserve; where an optional afternoon game drive can give you your first encounter with South Africa’s big five and many more animals.

Day 7: Private Game Reserve to Coffee Bay
The true animal lovers can get up early for a second optional game drive in the private game reserve. After breakfast we head out along the Wild Coast towards Coffee Bay, a small coastal town. And since it is Sunday, we offer you the possibility to sing and clap with the locals during an African church service.

Day 8: Coffee Bay
A day of relaxing at the beach or a visit to the Hole in the Wall are just 2 of the possibilities today. You can also meet the locals during a visit to a Xhosa village (optional).

Day 9: Coffee Bay to Drakensberg
On our way to the Drakensberg, we visit Qunu. This small town is Nelson Mandela’s place of birth. Here we will learn more about the roots of this legendary man. Overnight near Drakensberg gardens.

Day 10: Drakensberg
The natural border with Lesotho is our location for today: the Drakensberg mountain range. Many hiking trails offer ways to explore the mountains on foot. You can also choose to play a game of golf (optional) or enjoy an afternoon in the spa (optional). An absolute highlight would be to book a 4x4 Sani Pass excursion (optional) that will take you all the way up to the highest peaks, all the way into Lesotho.

Day 11: Drakensberg to St. Lucia
On our way back to the coast we stop at a local daycare to meet the children (not during holidays). We also stop at the Howick waterfall and drive through the Valley of a 1000 Hills. By the end of the afternoon we reach our destination: St. Lucia.

Day 12: St. Lucia
We get up early in order to have the best chance of spotting animals during an optional 4x4 game drive in the Umfolozi Game Reserve, which is known for its large white rhino population. In the afternoon we go back to St. Lucia where we go on a boat cruise through the wetlands, a UNESCO world heritage site.

Day 13: St. Lucia to Swaziland
We leave South Africa for 2 days and enter the small kingdom of Swaziland. Encounter the unique culture of these friendly people as we visit the local market and the famous glass factory.

Day 14: Swaziland
Today can be spent in the Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary, exploring Swaziland’s gorgeous nature. Or we can rent a bicycle and visit a rural village nearby (optional).

Day 15: Swaziland to Hazyview
On our way back to South Africa, we visit a Swazi cultural village (show included). Afterwards, we travel to our lodge just outside the famous Kruger Park. After arrival you can either relax at the lodge or go on an optional evening game drive.

Day 16: Kruger National Park
A full day in the Kruger National Park. We get up early and go on a game drive with our own vehicle. Keep your eyes open and your camera ready for the Big 5 and other animals such as giraffe, hippo and all sorts of antelopes. Optional you could also choose to spend this day in a 4x4 open vehicle.

Day 17: Hazyview to Hoedspruit
We travel the famous Panorama Route and explore the spectacular sightings of the Blyde River Canyon, God’s Window and Bourke’s Luck Potholes (entry included). In Pilgrim’s Rest, we might even strike gold during our gold digging adventure (optional). Overnight in Hoedspruit area.

Day 18: Hoedspruit
The true animal lovers can spend another day in Kruger (optional). One can also do this on foot during an optional bush walk either in a private game reserve or in Kruger. A visit to the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre can also be booked. Overnight in Hoedspruit area.

Day 19: Hoedspruit to Johannesburg
After breakfast we travel through Mpumalanga – the place of the rising sun - to Johannesburg where we say our fond farewells.
