Skeleton Coast |
|
|
Country: Namibia The San hunters called it “The Land God Made in Anger”, European sailors referred to it as the gates of Hell. No matter how uninviting the name, the Skeleton Coast is one of the most unique natural highlights in Namibia where the desert dunes meet the ocean. The national park - that includes a seal colony, elephants, rhino and giraffe - is named after the bleached bones that used to wash up on the beach while the whaling industry was still active. Although one might think the vast amount of shipwrecks, caused by the eerie fog that often hangs over the area, has something to do with it. |
