Southern Africa Travel Guide

Richtersveld National Park

Country: South Africa
In the densely populated Northern Cape, close to the border with Namibia, lies the rugged Richtersveld. In its ecosystem you can find no less than 650 plant species, many endemic to the region. This includes the “Halfmensboom” (“Half-man tree”). The indigenous Nama people see these as the personification of their ancestors. Best time to visit: spring (August/September) when the Namaqualand daisies are in full bloom!
