Southern Africa Travel Guide

Big Tree (Outeniqua Yellowwood)

The Afrocarpus falcatus as it is formerly known is native to the montane forests of southern Africa. In the wild, the trees can grow for hundreds of years and reach impressive heights. "The Big Tree" is a fine and enormous example of the Afrocarpus. It is situated on the Garden Route, near Storms River. A pleasant boarded walk will take you to the tree that is rumoured to be almost a thousand years old.
